In the run-up to Duanwu, or Dragon Boat Festival, a dragon boat parade was held in Hunan’s Daoxian County, where the tradition of holding dragon boat races has been passed down for thousands of years. In Daoxian County, each dragon boat has its own name, and their bows are adorned with colorful sculptures of different animals, including the dragon, tiger, phoenix, eagle and cat. In 2021, Daoxian County’s dragon boat races were added to China’s list of national intangible cultural heritage.
