The Tata Sierra EV, bound for FY26, is expected to feature both single and dual electric motor setups with a claimed range of over 500 km
At the Investor Day 2024, Tata Motors reaffirmed the launches of the Curvv EV and Harrier EV this financial year while the Sierra EV and Avinya will arrive in FY26. In the coming months, Tata will introduce the electric Curvv before the Harrier EV in early 2025. As for the Sierra EV, Tata brought back the nameplate after years of absence as a concept at the 2020 Auto Expo.
A close-to-production concept appeared at the 2023 Auto Expo, confirming that the brand is seriously considering the return of the nameplate. The original Sierra was built on a modified version of the Tata Telcoline platform and featured a distinctive boxy shape with a rear-mounted spare wheel. It was known for its rugged design and off-road capabilities.
The Sierra EV concept was based on Gen 2 architecture, a modified version of ALFA which debuted in the Altroz premium hatchback. The ICE Sierra was said to arrive first initially with a new 1.5L DI turbo petrol engine capable of 170 hp but it looks like Tata is committed to bringing an electric variant and it will have design similarities with the concept.

The concept measured 4,150 mm long, 1,820 mm wide and stood 1,675 mm tall with a wheelbase length of 2,450 mm. The production model could have similar dimensions as the concept but the design will be more modern while retaining the signature curved glass frame. Tata had also confirmed that next-generation Sierra would have a high degree of personalisation.
The prototype showcased in 2023 had a more conventional five-door setup including a proper trunk lid, contrary to the suicide rear door found on the 2020 concept. The Curvv EV will become the second model to sit on the Acti.ev platform, premiere in the Punch EV and it will also underpin the Harrier. However, the Sierra EV could have a slightly advanced architecture, based on the Gen 2 while taking all the learnings from the Acti.ev.

The interior is expected to be more premium than the Curvv and Harrier EVs and it will feature next-gen touchscreen displays with EV-specific UI, connected tech, in-car app suite, OTA upgrades, drive modes and a frunk. We do expect Tata to offer single- and dual-motor configurations with the latter enabling an e-AWD setup, sticking to the original Sierra’s off-road characteristics. It will be powered by high-density battery packs and expect the range to be well over 500 km on a single charge while supporting fast charging and having bidirectional charging capabilities.
