GaadiWaadi –

Get a detailed look at the leaked Tata Sierra EV – a blend of heritage and innovation – which is set to hit the showrooms in 2025

In a recent development, leaked patent images of the production-ready Tata Sierra have surfaced online, offering a sneak peek into what could be a game-changer in the electric SUV market. The Sierra EV, showcased as a concept at Auto Expo 2023, has evolved into a more conventional 5-door SUV, departing from the three-door design of its iconic predecessor.

The leaked design patent image reveals a boxy exterior with short front and rear overhangs, drawing parallels to the Land Rover Defender. The front fascia is characterised by a minimalist design, featuring a wide LED DRL strip that spans the entire width. Square-ish wheel arches, a clamshell bonnet, and a robust shoulder line contribute to its rugged yet modern aesthetic.

It also gets flush-type door handles, reminiscent of the Mahindra XUV700. The reimagined window frame with a curved B-pillar nod to the original Sierra’s distinctive features. While the leaked patent images do not unveil the rear profile and interior layout, we expect the production version of the Tata Sierra to offer a premium experience, similar to the Nexon and Harrier.

Tata Motors seems to be banking on nostalgia, reviving the Sierra nameplate and giving it a modern twist. The design patent hints at a more practical-looking SUV with expected mild changes to enhance functionality. The overall stance, inspired by the Land Rover Discovery, promises a blend of sophistication and rugged appeal.

While technical details remain undisclosed, the Tata Sierra is confirmed to get an all-electric powertrain. The move towards an all-electric powertrain aligns with the industry’s shift towards sustainable mobility, marking Tata Motors’ commitment to an eco-friendly future. Interestingly, it will also have an ICE counterpart, set to arrive a little while after the EV version, with both petrol and diesel engine options.

The new Sierra is set to hit showrooms in 2025. The EV is poised to compete with electric counterparts like the BYD Atto 3, MG ZS EV, and Hyundai Kona EV, along with the upcoming Hyundai Creta EV and Maruti eVX. On the other hand, the ICE version will lock horns with Kia Seltos, MG Astor, Skoda Kushaq, etc.
