As night falls, the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests in the Temple of Heaven – a world heritage site in Beijing with a history of more than 600 years – glows with bright lights. Palace lanterns, decorated with Peking Opera facial makeup designs, also light the path for tourists on their night tour. The Temple of Heaven was an imperial sacrificial building complex for the emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties to pray to heaven for a good harvest.
