As the Spring Festival approaches, the Qilou ancient street area in Haikou, Hainan Province is adorned with a festive atmosphere, filled with holiday cheer. Rows of colorful lanterns are hung high along the streets, with golden “Fu” characters and auspicious couplets embellishing the scene.
The Nanyang-style Qilou buildings on the street are a symbol of this tropical island city. The oldest building – Sipai Building – dates back 800 years to the Southern Song Dynasty. Qilou ancient street has earned the title of being a “Famous Historical and Cultural Street” of China.
