Dogs love having a ball, literally. Well, Carles Perez sure learnt the same the hard way.
The former Barcelona and current Aris Thessaloniki winger has been sidelined due to a groin injury sustained in a dog attack, as reported by Spanish media on Wednesday.
The 27-year-old Spaniard was walking his own dog when he was bitten in the genitals by another dog while trying to separate the animals. The incident resulted in a deep wound that required hospital treatment.
Perez may need surgery and has reportedly already received six stitches to close the wound.
Currently on loan in the Greek Super League from Celta Vigo, Perez was treated at a private hospital in Panorama, a suburb of Thessaloniki. He is under observation and will be taking some time off the pitch with no specified return date, missing his side’s Conference League qualification match against Araz-Naxçıvan PFK.
Perez played in the Greek team’s 2–1 defeat against Araz-Nakhchivan in the first leg of the second qualifying round of the Europa Conference League.
The Spaniard is aiming to rejuvenate his career in Thessaloniki following a loan deal with an option to buy. Despite his previous loan spell at Getafe, he did not secure a permanent move, and Celta Vigo has been seeking a transfer for him for several months.
The ex-Barcelona youth player has made just one appearance for his new club before being abruptly halted by the injury. Perez played the full 90 minutes in Aris’ first-leg defeat against Araz-Naxçıvan.
Perez made 13 senior appearances for Barcelona before moving on loan to Serie A side Roma, where he was obligated to stay, scoring eight goals in 75 appearances as the club won the Conference League.
After two seasons, he returned to La Liga with Celta on loan, which eventually became a permanent move.
