Volkswagen has announced the integration of the well-known AI tool, ChatGPT to complement its online voice assistant IDA
AI (Artificial Intelligence) is omnipresent these days whether you like it or not. In the global markets, Volkswagen has announced the integration of the well-known AI tool, ChatGPT to complement its online voice assistant IDA. Customers can interact with their Volkswagen vehicles using natural language, gaining access to more information.
VW, in collaboration with technology partner Cerence, is among the first major manufacturers to integrate ChatGPT into its vehicles. This feature is available in all new ID series models and in the new Golf, new Tiguan, and new Passat. The brand’s latest models already feature the IDA online voice assistant, which allows users to manage the infotainment, navigation, and climate control systems.
The system also answers a variety of questions. The integration of ChatGPT, however, greatly broadens these capabilities, offering even more possibilities for interaction. For instance, AI can offer details about tourist attractions, recount past football tournaments, or assist with math problems. This system operates intuitively: the driver speaks naturally to the assistant without needing to divert their attention from the road.

Earlier this year, Volkswagen unveiled the first vehicles with ChatGPT integrated into the IDA voice assistant at CES 2024, a premier electronics trade show. The technology is available in English (US), English (UK), Spanish, Czech, and German. The integration of ChatGPT in Volkswagen vehicles has been achieved through a partnership with Cerence Inc., a global leader in automotive AI solutions.
Using Cerence Chat Pro, which draws from various sources including ChatGPT, IDA can deliver accurate and relevant responses to almost any query according to the brand.
