The Mahindra XUV.e8 will be launched in January-March 2025 period in India; will be the first model to sit on the INGLO platform
Mahindra & Mahindra is planning to launch its second all-electric vehicle for the Indian market in the final quarter of this FY. The model in question is the XUV700-based XUV.e8 which was showcased a couple of years ago in its concept form alongside other XUV.e and BE concepts. The XUV.e8 has already been caught testing multiple times on domestic soil in its near-production guise.
The homegrown manufacturer plans to allocate Rs. 27,000 crore to its automotive vertical over the next three years. This includes Rs. 14,000 crore for IC-engined and Rs. 12,000 crore for EVs between this FY and FY2026-27. Amongst the investment for ICE vehicles, an estimated tally of Rs. 8,500 crore will be invested in SUVs and Rs. 4,000 crore in commercial vehicles.
Mahindra is not shying away from alternative fuel options and technologies either as it will consider hybrid vehicles if the market demands. In the foreseeable future, the ICE SUVs will continue to play a pivotal role in the brand garnering volumes but from 2025 CY, it will expand its zero-emission portfolio across different segments as part of the transitional phase.
The company’s SUV range has witnessed consistent sales numbers courtesy of the increase in production and reduction in waiting period in recent times and the brand hopes to carry the momentum with the launch of the XUV 3XO. The compact SUV has received over 50,000 bookings in less than 60 minutes since the reservations opened.
The company has been developing its born-electric INGLO architecture, which will debut in the XUV.e8, and is currently at an advanced stage of validation and commencing production. By 2030, Mahindra aims to introduce 9 ICE SUVs, 7 battery electric vehicles, and 7 light commercial vehicles. Within the internal combustion engine segment, the plan includes launching 5 new SUVs and implementing 3 mid-life updates.
In August 2024, Mahindra will launch the five-door version of the Thar while the next generation Bolero is also in the works. The XUV.e8 will likely be followed by the BE.05 while the XUV.e9 and other models from the BE range are also on the horizon.
