BMW 5 Series LWB India Launch To Happen On July 24

The BMW 5 Series LWB is expected to get minor changes over the China-spec model and it will compete with the Mercedes-Benz E-Class LWB

BMW India is planning to introduce the new 5 Series on July 24 in its long wheelbase format for the first time. With luxury car sales growing, manufacturers are looking to bring in global models in quick succession to capitalise on the growing demand and BMW is not an exception. Targetting chauffeur-driven customers, it will offer better legroom in the second row.

The latest BMW 5 Series was introduced in China in August 2023 alongside the electric i5 LWB following the debut of the eighth generation 5 Series a few months before. It will compete directly with the Mercedes-Benz E-Class LWB, which is due an update later this calendar year. It will be 145 mm longer compared to the regular model with a wheelbase length of 3,105 mm (110 mm longer).

It measures a length of 5,175 mm, a width of 1,900 mm and a height of 1,520 mm in China and expect minor changes in the India-spec version. It will accompany the 3 Series Grand Limo retailed in the domestic market and is visually identical to the standard 5 Series as the illuminated front grille design, headlamps and tail lamps are similar.
BMW-5-Series-LWB-1.jpgThe bumpers will get minor updates though based on the trim levels and it may get an illuminated 5 emblem on the Hofmeister kink. As for the performance, the New BMW 5 Series is expected to be available with 2.0L turbocharged petrol and diesel mild-hybrid engine choices. Both will be linked with an eight-speed automatic transmission as standard.

The equipment list will comprise a massive 31.1-inch panoramic display screen with 5G compatibility and 8K resolution, B&W audio, a three-spoke flat-bottom steering wheel, four-zone automatic climate control, bi-colour quilted seat upholstery, Titanium Bronze accents, controls with the Crafted Clarity glass treatment and much more.

Its sibling, the BMW i5, was launched just over a month ago in India for a price tag of Rs. 1.20 crore (ex-showroom). Brought into the country via a fully loaded M60 xDrive avatar, it boasts a 601 hp e-motor and an 83.9 kWh battery enabling a driving range of 516 km in the WLTP range.
