Cranes from East Africa thrive in their habitat at Guangzhou bird park

With its gray body, white wings, red throat pouch and golden crown, the gray-crowned crane exudes nobility and elegance as it weaves through the grass on its long, thin legs. Native to eastern and southern Africa, the species was introduced to Chimelong Bird Park in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province in 2005, where its population has now grown to around 400. During the flight show, one of the park’s most popular events, flocks of grey-crowned cranes gracefully fly over the water with other birds to show their foraging habits. At other times, they play and rest in their vast open enclosure, which allows visitors to observe them up close.
