Hyundai Sets New Record With Over 6 Lakh Domestic Sales In 2023

Hyundai has crossed the six lakh domestic sales milestone for the first time in CY2023 with a YoY growth of 9 per cent while the exports increased by 10 per cent

Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) has today announced that it has achieved the highest-ever domestic sales in a single calendar year. The South Korean auto major has gone past the six lakh sales milestone in 2023 as a total of 6,02,111 units were recorded as against 5,52,511 units during the same period last year with a YoY positive volume increase of 9 per cent.

In the export department, Hyundai shipped 1,63,675 units in the period between January and December 2023 as against 1,48,300 units during the corresponding period in CY2022 with an impressive surge of 10 per cent. In the final month of 2023, Hyundai posted a cumulative total of 56,450 units as against 42,750 units in domestic sales and 13,700 units in exports compared to December 2022.

As a whole, Hyundai registered 7,65,786 units in CY2023 as against 7,00,811 units in the previous calendar year with a YoY volume increase of 9 per cent. Speaking on the sales performance, Tarun Garg, COO, HMIL, said, “In the momentous year of 2023, Hyundai Motor India witnessed a watershed moment by achieving its highest-ever domestic sales of 6,02,111 units, achieving a respectable 9% growth over LY sales volume. HMIL has not just kept pace but surpassed industry growth (estimated at around 8.2%), a testament to customers choosing brand Hyundai as their preferred mobility brand. Also in 2023, we proactively expanded our annual production capacity by 50,000 units to meet the increasing demand from our customers.”

In CY2023, Hyundai became the first car manufacturer in India to offer six airbags as standard across its entire range while the new generation Verna midsize sedan received five stars in the Global NCAP safety assessments. The Hyundai Exter, introduced in 2023, surpassed the one lakh booking milestone in a short period as well.

In line with its vision of Progress for Humanity, HMIL has initiated ‘Samarth,’ a corporate
endeavour supporting differently-abled individuals and fostering an inclusive environment. The second largest carmaker in India currently has 1,366 sales outlets and 1,548 service outlets across the nation and it sells a total of 13 passenger vehicles.

They are Grand i10 Nios, i20, i20 N-Line, Aura, Exter, Venue, Venue N-Line, Verna, Creta, Alcazar, Tucson, Kona Electric and Ioniq 5. The company exports cars from its Sriperumbudur facility in Tamil Nadu to 88 countries across Africa, the Middle East, Latin America, Australia,
and Asia Pacific.
