Yamdrok Tso Lake, which means “the emerald lake of the upper pasture” in Tibetan, is located in Shannan, southwest China’s Xizang Autonomous Region, about 70 kilometers southwest of Lhasa. The lake has an altitude of 4,441 meters and covers an area of 638 square kilometers. It is revered as one of the three holy lakes in Xizang.
